Polokwane - capital city of the Limpopo ProvinceLimpopo's capital, Polokwane is home to most of the province's financial and commercial activity which contributes 13% towards the provincial GDP alone. Other major towns in the district are Alldays and Mogwadi (Dendron). The two main municipalities servicing the district are the Polokwane Municipality and Capricorn Municipality. All of Limpopo's provincial government departments have their headquarters in Polokwane and the city has shown considerable growth over the past ten years. In this regard, the government plays an important role in terms of job creation, support for small businesses and in the development of the infrastructure to meet the needs of the growing population. With Polokwane being one of the host cities for the FIFA 2010 World Cup, massive infrastructure development is currently underway to get the city ready for an event of this magnitude. The new R 907-million Peter Mokaba Stadium was completed and officially opened earlier this year. Polokwane will host four matches during the World Cup, with many overseas visitors also expected to take advantage of the vast tourism opportunities available in Limpopo.
